There's a hill top restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan called 草山夜未眠 Chousan on top of 陽明山 Yang-Ming Mountain. This was one of my must-visit places in Taipei but I never got a chance until the last time I visited Taipei with my bestie.
草山夜未眠 Chousan is a restaurant that serves international food but we had coffee there and had the street food in Shilin Market instead (since we were on a time constrain). Originally we were aiming to see the sunset, but we didn’t expect the sun to set so early in Taiwan (around 6pm!). Maybe next time when I visit, I will start to go up the mountain around 5pm. The restaurant was full of couples! But we didn’t care about that enjoyed our time taking millions of photos of the beautiful view haha.
All in all, 草山夜未眠 Chousan was a beautiful place. The picture says it all. There’s another restaurant called 屋頂上 The Top, which I heard is also not bad. For my next trip in Taiwan, I will make sure to pay a visit.
Tips: Remember to buy a Taiwan SIM card at the airport so you can register with a Taiwanese number, you may need it to book restaurants (since lots of restaurants are always booked out in Taipei) or call Uber (if Taiwan still allows Uber) or even order UberEats. Taiwan SIM card can be found in the booths in Taoyuan Airport for around 300 NTD depending on your usage.
Directions: It seemed the best way to travel to the top is by taxi and if you are on a budget, maybe you can share a ride with others who are also heading the same way from Shilin Market. There are many taxis outside the station and some drivers will ask if you are going up to Yangming Mountain. You can carpool with random people and split the fare, the taxi driver will organize it. For us, we took uber. It costed around 800 NTD from Zhongxiao Dunhua Station.
